Morning
We woke up bright and early at 5:45 a.m. After getting dressed we went out to the patio for breakfast, because it was so early in the morning everything wasn’t ready. The meal consisted of cereal, fruit and toast, but after a couple of minutes the chef added delicious eggs. Following breakfast we headed to Chacocente to begin our hard work. This bus ride was different because we had assigned seats, the teachers wanted us to sit and bond with people we normally don’t hang with. We arrived at Chacocente and everyone was full of spirit and joy to get started. Within 2 minutes of getting there we all had a job. While some transferred blocks from the inside to outside the house and getting biting ants out of them, others filled the wagons with dirt to fill the house for a floor. While those jobs were almost finished some of us shifted the sand to get the rocks out of it, later we used the fine sand to mix cement. Many of us liked mixing the sand and moving it around so it wouldn’t dry. A job that was fought over was straightening nails with a hammer because you could keep out of the sun. Hala even said her muscles got bigger from all the lifting. During the work we could take breaks when we wanted to, during the break we would sit on blocks and reapply sunscreen. M. Kelly was being very cautious making sure nobody got sun burn. When it was time to leave everybody was sad and started complaining. Before we left we took a group picture. The picture showed the dirty legs made from such hard work. After pictures we headed back to the car and donated some of our working gloves to the people working. We drove back to the entrance area to eat lunch. We were all covered in a layer of dust, so we were off to wash our hands for lunch.

Afternoon
We drove back to the entrance area to eat lunch. We had to wait a little while everybody washed up and go into the room to eat. We all just talked about the stuff that happened so far. Then we went upstairs to go eat watermelon, cantaloupe, rice, beans, beef with onions and peppers, fried plantain and variety of soda options. We all just played with the ice and enjoyed the food and as usual Cyani and Amari couldn’t stop eating. Afterwards we walked out of the little room. Sadly Hala fell down the steps, but she’s doing fine. LOL!! We went to the van to go get some money for the mini market that the people at Chacocente set up. There were a lot of bracelets and purses. There were also necklaces, hammocks and wallets. Alena and Ruby bought a hammock. Although the hammocks were high we decided not to bargain but other than that the prices were very cheap, a lot cheaper than the prices at the outdoor market. When we finished shopping we decided to stay for an extra 20 minutes. Hala, Matthew and Jack played basketball with Michael. The Take Flight team donated a basketball and a soccer ball, it was so nice to see how happy the kids were to play with the new equipment. While they played some of us just talked about some of the common things in Nicaragua and related them to the things in Philly. When it was time for us to leave we gave our hugs and said our goodbye’s. When we got in the van we waved to kids that were sitting outside watching us leave. Maestra Elisse didn’t get in right away because she had to close the gate. We all told Juan Pablo to drive away without her except for Kyla, she wanted us to wait for M. Elisse. We all laughed it off. M. Elisse got even with M. Kelly by spraying her with cold water. The ride home was similar to the ride there, we got the assigned seats but next to different people. The ride home everyone was dusty and sweaty so everybody was calling their spots for the shower. M. Elisse had the idea that to get in the pool sooner we would put our swimsuits on and get hosed down by the water hose. When it was Matthew’s turn he was teasing M.Elisse about her cockroach situation so she was spraying and wetting him then again came “ Jack to the rescue!!”. Jack tried to get the hose and get Maestra Elisse and the two began fighting over it, Maestra Kelly came and pushed them in. We spent like 3 hours in the pool and got out to get ready to go to dinner. We decided that we would just order and eat at the hotel to have a Mini Pool Party! Turn Up :)
